Competent Learner Model (CLM)
The Competent Learner Model (CLM) is an educational framework that enhances learning outcomes for all students, especially those with learning and behavioral challenges. CLM integrates positive teaching approaches designed from evidence-based principles of applied behavior analysis, precision teaching, and Direct Instruction. The CLM Curriculum focuses on making learning fun and developing important social, communication, academic and life skills by teaching seven core repertoires—Observer, Listener, Talker, Reader, Writer, Problem Solver, and Participator—through individualized, data-driven instruction and positive reinforcement.
ABOUT THE BADGE PATHWAY
This 4 badge/course sequence is appropriate for students or professionals working in the fields of education or human services who are interested in becoming a Certified CLM Instructor.
Learners start in the CLM Foundations Badge and progress through the other badges to earn the entire stack.
Working through the badge requires about 4-6 hours per week. Most of the work is asynchronous, but there are every-other-week online seminar meetings with required attendance. Email cscutta@clmcenterofexcellence.com for information about the upcoming meeting schedule.
Additionally, you will need access to a student learner with whom you can practice CLM techniques, must obtain consent to record yourself working with the student, and upload recordings for feedback. You will meet weekly with a CLM coach for mentoring and performance checks.
